INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT (1)
Without our realisation, there are quite a number of Malaysian brands have already become successful internationally. Malaysia actually produces and exports a much larger variety of products than many people might expect.
"The National Mark of MALAYSIAN BRAND is a powerful door-opener to bigger and better business worldwide. Brand owners that have achieved this respected standard for quality, excellence and distinction know that they can deal with their business partners in complete confidence.
However, through this effort, the Malaysian Government hopes to provide Malaysian Brands with some assistance to grow, penetrate international markets and become competitive on a global platform.
PROJECT 1 : 'EXPERIENCING LOCAL' - a crafted spirit
In this project, the local product that i have been chosen is ART (visual & performing). we were assigned to prepare an individual compilation of research outcomes, findings, analysis, inspirational elements on an approved chosen local product or production which will be composed in a form of 2D (partial 3D) ‘Mood Board’ that expresses material, systems, flexibility, process, lighting, colours, textures, style and elements that will be used on the overall final design approach.
ART - Wood Carving
Wood carving is a form of woodworking by means of a cutting tool (knife) in one hand or a chisel by two hands or with one hand on a chisel and one hand on a mallet, resulting in a wooden figure or figurine, or in the sculptural ornamentation of a wooden object. The phrase may also refer to the finished product, from individual sculptures to hand-worked mouldings composing part of a tracery.
The making of sculpture in wood has been extremely widely practiced, but survives much less well than the other main materials such as stone and bronze, as it is vulnerable to decay, insect damage, and fire. It therefore forms an important hidden element in the art history of many cultures.
The patterns of wood carving are mostly inspired by the flora and fauna, calligraphy wordings, natural elements(trees, flowers, plants), pua kumbu)
Visitation to KKK National Craft Day
In National Craft Day, they sell the wide variety local products which are include arts, products, fashion and foods in Malaysia. We went to the exhibition intentionally to get to know more about our own products as they provide live demonstrations watching the whole making process of our own particular products and when we get confused or have any questions, they are experts to solve our difficulties.

Programming

Spatial Programming
At the very beginning I designed my start up garage as a cafe and a workspace where the cafe is for the parents to have a chilling space while waiting for their children in the workshop.
But after I did some precedent studies all about wood carving on how to solve the problem that nowadays the society faced, which are few..
1. Nowadays there are too many machine replacing manual labor that causes people keep on depending on the machine and forget about the hard work of the process of wood carving.
2. Wood carving are lack of attention of youngsters cause it is a traditional art and youngsters nowadays only keep their attention on the social media.
So, in order to solve both of these 2 major problems in malacca and preserve the traditional art of wood carving, Jiang wood-working acts as a production, gallery and carving teaching academy startup garage , would like to collaborate with Chua Yi Min, Min Wood Carving Workshop, Malaysian wood carver enthusiast, who is fighting hard to keep the wood carving tradition alive. Our startup garage and Chua Yi Min would like to coordinate to conduct classes in the workshop to learn the traditions philosophy, techniques, and motifs associated with traditional woodcarving.
匠Jiàng is a mandarin pinyin, means craftsman in English.

Sectional Perspectives

Wood Carving Gallery
History of art can be more interesting than the history that full of words, so that they can know more about the artist in Malaysia and their sculptures. Both of the greens and wood carving are integrated because both of them are natural elements, so the target carver wont feel boring when looking at the wood works. the color and the tone of brown also combined and bring out the mood to the target carver.

Isometric

Atrium Resting Area
A place that people can feel the feeling of green, in the garden whereas kids can watch television another side, a place where both parents and children can fully use, on the other hand, wood works continue to exhibit at the both sides.

Bridge Gallery
A big is space is created because most of the big works will be placed. A bridge was designed so that users can have interaction with the person on the ground floor

Merchandise
Merchandise is connected with ground floor with a spiral staircase inside. They can buy wood carving items and students who registered for classes in the workshop can also sell their own handmade wood carving art in the merchandise and set their own price.
Dark Room
The feeling in a dark room is totally black with a torchlight. Users can only touch and feel the texture and patterns of wood carving because when you cant see, your five senses will be more sensitive and active. This is one of the main idea for them to have a deeper feeling of the works previous wood carver.

Workspace / Production
A workspace is where we will collaborate with Chua Yi Min to conduct classes of wood carving, teaching how to draw a pattern, which is the correct tools to carve wood, choose a correct wood, all the techniques and motifs of wood carving and students are allow to sell their own wood carving art at the merchandise in Jiang woodworking.
